John Uniack Davis has been Helen Keller’s Regional Director for West Africa, based in Dakar, Senegal, since 2016. He supervises Helen Keller country offices in Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Senegal, and Sierra Leone and represents the Africa Region in Helen Keller’s global Safety and Security Working Group.
John previously served as CARE Country Director in Turkey, working on the Syria humanitarian response, and in Madagascar. Before that, he was a CARE Deputy Regional Director, based in Accra, Ghana, and Assistant Country Director for Mali. He also previously served as Development Assistance Coordinator for the U.S. Government in Niger.
John has done consulting for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the United Nations Capital Development Fund, the Netherlands Development Organization (SNV), and several INGOs. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from Michigan State University and an M.S. in agricultural economics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. His international career began as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Burkina Faso.
