What is a donor-advised fund?

A donor-advised fund is a charitable giving account established at a third party 501(c)(3) organization. They are gaining popularity as a way to donate because of their tax benefits and ease. You contribute to the fund, receive an immediate tax deduction from the fund, then recommend grants to qualified nonprofits, like Helen Keller Intl, over time.

Yes. IRS guidelines prohibit donors from receiving benefits in exchange for donor-advised fund grants. This includes event-related sponsorships, tables, or tickets, fulfilling a pledge, or other perquisites.

If a donor wishes to purchase a ticket or table to a charitable event and receive the corresponding benefits, a separate non donor-advised gift may be made for a ticket purchase, depending on your circumstances.
