Vitamin A is essential for children’s health and vision, yet vitamin A-rich foods are not a natural part of diets for many families living in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia. As a result, nearly one-third of children worldwide do not get enough vitamin A in their diets.
Helen Keller partners with ministries of health and community health heroes to distribute vitamin A to millions of children across Asia and Africa every year.
A single capsule of vitamin A, given twice a year during the first five years of life, can reduce childhood mortality by more than 25%. This simple yet powerful intervention costs just over $1 per dose, making it an incredibly cost-effective way to save lives and improve child health.
