Côte d’Ivoire
In Côte d’Ivoire, Helen Keller Intl partners with key government ministries—including the Ministries of Agriculture, Education and Social Literacy, Employment and Social Protection, and Health—to strengthen local systems and improve access to vision, health, and nutrition services for the people we serve. Our work is rooted in evidence-based approaches that help ensure communities have access to healthy food and vital care.
60% of children under the age of 5 suffer from vitamin A deficiency, putting their vision, health, and lives at risk.
Over 27% of people in rural areas of Côte d’Ivoire are malnourished due to low incomes and poor nutritional quality of local foods.
An estimated 14% of the
population has a preventable
visual impairment, including a 3% blindness rate that is largely due to cataracts.
Together, we help communities create lasting change by:
Supporting the distribution of vitamin A and deworming medication through campaigns and routine care throughout the country, including remote and hard-to-reach areas.
Empowering women to grow nutritious foods and build financial security through the creation of micro-businesses.
Providing free cataract surgery for patients in the Bélier, Haut Sassandra, and Tonkpi health regions.
Last year, we helped millions build lasting change
Reached more than 4.7 million children with a full dose of vitamin A, reaching an average of 96% of eligible children.
Provided agricultural tools, training, and education to nearly 50,000 women to build healthier futures for themselves and their families.
Performed free cataract surgeries for more than 500 people to prevent blindness and restore their vision.
