Helen Keller Celebrated as Top Charity by Vox Columnists

Vox has once again championed Helen Keller Intl as one of the best, most cost-effective global health charities.

In their annual Giving Tuesday Guide, the Vox team praised Helen Keller for our work supporting vitamin A supplementation across Africa. In a second article, they also highlighted our long-standing status as a GiveWell–recommended charity

According to Vox, “GiveWell recommends Helen Keller because vitamin A supplementation significantly reduces child mortality…. What’s more, vitamin A supplementation has other benefits. It can prevent blindness and stunting, helping children grow up with healthy vision and to healthy heights and weights, which could translate into higher incomes and other benefits as an adult.”

Since 2018, Helen Keller has been one of GiveWell’s top four charities, for our ability to do the most good at the lowest cost, citing our vitamin A work as one of the most cost-effective and high-impact health interventions in the world.

A single capsule of vitamin A, given twice a year during the first five years of a child’s life, can reduce childhood mortality by more than 25%. This simple yet powerful intervention costs just over $1 per dose, making it an incredibly cost-effective way to save lives and improve child health.

Helen Keller partners with ministries of health and community health heroes to deliver vitamin A to millions of children across Africa every year. Last year alone, we distributed more than 87 million vitamin A capsules.
