To mark Mother’s Day, we celebrate the amazing fortitude and resourcefulness of mothers, grandmothers, and all those who take on mothering roles in the families and communities we serve around the world. In our health and nutrition programs in vulnerable communities, mothers are often the first responders when their children show signs of illness. They are our partners in helping ensure that young children get the proper food, care, and health services they need to thrive and flourish. In our US vision care programs, mothers are our partners in ensuring their kids can see clearly to succeed in school and in life.

We could say a lot more about why mothers matter so much in their families and in vulnerable communities. But we’d rather let you see for yourself.

A picture is indeed worth a thousand words. Here are a few of the remarkable caregivers and mothers we met this past year whose daily devotion to caring for others exemplifies what it means “to mother.”
