Support Our Vitamin A Work
One of the most cost-effective ways to save children’s lives
Nearly one-third of children under five worldwide do not get enough vitamin A, and in some sub-Saharan African countries the number can reach 80%.
Vitamin A deficiency weakens immune systems, increases the risk of blindness, and leaves children vulnerable to common illnesses such as diarrhea, malaria, and measles. Routine infections can quickly become life-threatening.
A simple solution exists. Vitamin A supplementation—two small capsules each year—can reduce childhood mortality by more than 25%. And it only costs a little more than $1 a dose.
For more than 50 years, Helen Keller Intl has partnered with governments across 14 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa to deliver vitamin A to children ages 6-59 months, helping protect their vision and strengthen their immune systems.
Because of its strong evidence and cost-effectiveness, GiveWell has named Helen Keller Intl a “top charity” since 2018.
Last year alone, Helen Keller supported governments to:
Distribute 94.4 million vitamin A capsules to protect health & vision
Reach 47 million children under five years of age
Deliver high-coverage campaigns across 18 countries
