Niger
Since 1987, Helen Keller Intl has helped lead Niger’s fight against malnutrition and neglected tropical diseases. In close collaboration with government ministries, we work to build health and food systems’ resilience to ongoing shocks from conflict and insecurity, climate change, and inflation. We help children and families achieve good nutrition through routine vitamin and mineral supplementation, access to nutritious foods, and improved food production. We also help communities treat and prevent neglected tropical diseases by ensuring people have access to essential medications and support efforts to effectively integrate disease management into routine healthcare.
Millions of children are not getting enough vitamin A, impacting their ability to see clearly, fight off disease, and live a healthy life.
Nearly the entire population of Niger is at risk of contracting at least one neglected tropical disease.
More than 2.6 million people are facing hunger due to continued conflict, extreme weather, and rising costs of nutritious foods.
Together, we help communities create lasting change by:
Partnering with the government and communities to ensure families have access to critical vitamins and nutrients needed to ensure good health and combat malnutrition.
Ensuring people have access to essential care, including medication to prevent and treat neglected tropical diseases and corrective surgeries.
Training women in climate-smart agricultural practices, helping them to sustainably grow and eat nutrition-rich foods, despite extreme weather challenges.
Last year, we helped millions build lasting change
Reached more than 7.3 million children under the age of five with two doses of vitamin A, protecting their vision and health.
Helped reach 25,000 people with treatment for at least one neglected tropical disease, contributing to the national efforts toward their control and elimination.
Supported 400 women with training and resources on climate-smart agriculture so they could provide healthy foods to improve household nutrition and generate surplus income.
