Removing Barriers to Education with Vision Care
Accessing vision care is a challenge for many families at Chancellor Avenue School in Newark, New Jersey. Without insurance, glasses can be unaffordable, and it can be difficult for parents to take time off work to bring their child to the eye doctor.
Students who can’t see clearly may struggle to engage in the classroom and with their peers, putting their education at risk. For those students, a simple pair of prescription glasses can make all the difference.
New Jersey is one of four US states where Helen Keller Intl is partnering with schools and community organizations to offer no-cost vision services to children and families. Watch our video to learn how providing vision screenings and glasses in schools helps remove barriers to quality education.
