Investing in Women Creates Stronger Communities

Investing in Women Creates Stronger Communities

In Burkina Faso, nearly half of the population faces food insecurity driven by conflict, climate shocks, and limited economic opportunity. For many women, the ability to earn income and save money directly shapes whether their families are fed, healthy, and in school.

In communities across Burkina Faso, women are coming together to save, invest, and build more secure futures for themselves and their families. Through Village Savings and Loan Associations, they gain access to small loans, income-generating skills, and the collective strength of a group working toward the wellbeing of their community.

Helen Keller Intl supports village savings and loan groups as part of our broader work strengthening the food security and livelihoods of women and families across West Africa. Watch the video below to hear directly from the women involved.

A group of women in colourful headwraps and traditional patterned clothing are gathered outdoors, seated in a semi-circle on the ground and small stools. In the foreground, three women lean forward to count money, handling banknotes near a small red bowl placed on the ground.

Help more women build healthy, sustainable futures.
