Helping Children and Families See Possibilities with Vision Care

Helping Children and Families See Possibilities with Vision Care

Vision care is out of reach for many children and families across the United States because it is too expensive or difficult to access. As many as 4 million children and 12 million adults in the US are living with impaired vision due to an uncorrected refractive error. Without clear vision, children may struggle to fully engage in the classroom and with peers, and adults may have difficulty finding a job and connecting with their community.

Vision Program Manager Jorge Valdez has lead Helen Keller Intl’s vision care work in California for more than 20 years. He spoke to us about partnering with schools and community organizations to provide children and families in Los Angeles County with vision screenings and prescription glasses – free of charge.
